Adv Online Workout Lab
Frequently asked questions.
Who teaches the classes?
All classes are taught by Christinna Chauncey.
How long is the class?
Class runs approx 3-4 hours, depending upon the work.
What level of experience is required to enroll?
This class offers a challenging “workout” environment for the experienced actor who already has an at-home self-tape setup in place, is currently auditioning in film & television, and has (ideally) secured theatrical agency representation. The content is targeted for actors who have completed one of our past course offerings and have already received instruction as to our studio’s unique approach to script analysis, camera tech, and other such principles for auditioning powerfully - but is also open to actors who are new to the studio (not new to the craft), pending credits, previous training & level of experience. Interview may be required, even if already cleared on our Priority List. This helps ensure that the class format will best serve you, will not slow down or distract from the forward movement of the work each class, and will promote you and everyone else getting the most out of your investment.
Are the classes held in-person or online?
This is strictly an online course, and the current virtual platform we are utilizing for this class is Zoom.
Will I get a video copy of my work in class?
During your individual workout or when receiving notes regarding your self-tape or virtual callback, you will be allowed to record the meeting on your end via your Zoom account. Once your workout is complete and you have received your notes from the instructor, your recording capabilities will be disabled by the moderator. Recording class content apart from the Zoom recording tool and without the expressed permission of the studio is strictly prohibited. After the meeting has ended, Zoom will render & finalize your recording to your local computer and afterward you may review. When we are running ‘mock’ virtual sessions, your ‘audition’ will be recorded and played back for review during class, and may be provided to you afterwards per your request.
May I work my own material in class?
Material for this class is assigned in a highly customized fashion per actor with great intentional forethought in order to not only target and expand your wheelhouse, but to maximize your overall experience in class. Our studio is known for its strategic and efficient use of time in class, with the focus of material being a key contributing factor. Periodically however actors may request to substitute their own audition material and when this happens the instructor will determine whether or not allowing such a substitution will be compatible with the lab’s format, based on the following strict parameters:
1) A minimum 24 hours notice of the request to the studio must be provided, along with the pdf of the sides.
2) Within their request, the actor must present a brief explanation of the scene and its storyline context to the instructor, who may not have time to read the scene or research the project prior to class.
3) The material must be from contemporary or recent episodic television or film scripts (no theatre scripts).
4) If submitting current audition material, the sides must be free of watermarks. In general, watermarked material will not be permitted unless the actor can prove that the material and its contents contained therein (dialogue, storyline) have already been exposed to the general public or via a past airdate or past theatrical release. Any audition material currently being cast must be free of watermarks and not under a NDA, for obvious reasons. This privacy policy is in place to ensure that such material will remain unexposed in class in order to protect the writers, the actor, our studio, and the production company currently casting the role. This studio will not risk liability for confidential or watermarked material being exposed either in our classes or publicly online by an actor posting clips of their work in class on social media.
If any of the above criteria are not met or are missing from the actor’s initial request, it will not be considered.
If the actor’s material meets the aforementioned criteria and is approved for use in class by the instructor, the actor understands that they are simply substituting their material in place of the assigned material and that whatever format we are covering in that particular class will be the format they will adhere to with their own material. In other words, their workout time in class utilizing their own material will not be treated like a private coaching session. If the actor wants a full workout with extensive notes, guidance and personalized coaching on their material in preparation for an actual audition, they are advised to request a private coaching session.
Are there makeup classes?
No. The Online Workout Lab is a limited offering with no makeup classes available. Even if two online labs are offered in close proximity to each other, each lab remains its own unique experience, tailored specifically for the actors enrolled. If at any point you are unable to attend class, you may request to review a recording of the class you missed (please note that although we will put forth our best effort to record class, due to the unpredictable nature of tech, recordings of class are not guaranteed). Requesting to attend, switch or ‘make up’ your missed class in either an alternate lab or future lab is not an option. While there is no penalty for missing class, your full commitment to class is expected. So if you are already concerned about missing class at this point prior to registering and you are not satisfied that makeup classes will not be extended, you may want to reconsider enrollment in the Online Workout Lab, as it may not be the right fit for you at this time.
May I enroll in only 1 out of the 2 months?
A 2-month advanced workout lab is what is being offered here, so actors who commit to the full 2 months receive priority enrollment. As with all of our course offerings, these workout labs are expected to book out with wait lists. However, in the event that does not happen and we end up with a seat available in either of the labs, or if an actor has to drop out unexpectedly, then the option of enrolling in only 1 month may possibly be extended - but these instances are rare.
I know I want in - can I enroll before registration opens?
Due to the limited number of seats and high demand, enrollment begins on the day of registration. If you already know you want in, you are encouraged to mark the date (and time) registration opens on your calendar and make sure you are among the first to apply. If you are new to this studio or are not yet on our Priority List (a list of actors who have already been pre-cleared for one of our intensive course offerings), you are highly encouraged to apply to the Priority List now in order to help speed up the application process. However, please note that because the Adv Online Lab is originally crafted for actors who have previously studied at our studio, an interview may still be required for actors who are new to our studio - even those on the Priority List (pls refer to the answer provided to the 2nd question on this FAQs page regarding the prerequisite for the Adv Online Lab). Actors serious about applying are welcome to email the studio prior to the opening of registration to inquire as to whether an interview will still be required.
